Grace Gawler Insitute - Helping You Navigate the Cancer Maze

Continuity of Care

Jan says... in March 2024, after being diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer, I had the good fortune to work with the independent cancer navigator Grace Gawler. Together we mapped out a plan that would see me having a unilateral mastectomy in Australia followed by Immune Enhancement Therapy (AIET) in Japan.

The treatment plan was successful, and I am currently cancer free. The idea of being on my own post-cancer was extremely daunting so I was thrilled to be able continue my consultations with Grace in her continuity of care program.

As a 75-year old woman I have a number of other health issues that need attending to; osteoporosis, lung issues, skin cancer checks etc.

While the various specialists and health professionals I consult with concentrate their single areas of expertise, it is brilliant to have access to the kind of holistic overview and advice Grace can give on which areas of treatment will benefit me most.

For example learning the importance of bone health during and after breast cancer has been eye-opening. No other health professional mentioned this to me. The advice Grace gives on which drugs, supplements and natural medicines are beneficial or detrimental to my particular conditions, is also excellent.

The benefit of having regular zoom sessions means together we are across all the different things that come up. It’s such a relief not to be alone in making decisions about tests, prescriptions, or medical advice.

To this day I have never met anyone with the breadth of knowledge and insight across medical and health fields that Grace has. To feel supported physically and emotionally in this way following the trauma of cancer is especially valuable.

You’ve heard of birth doulas and death doulas, well in my mind Grace is a health doula. The one who knows and supports all the aspects of your medical, physical and emotional being is the one you want beside you through the journey of life. Everyone should have one!
